Road safety and Accidents

TOPIC :- Road safety and Accidents

As the number of vehicles increases day by day on roads the number of road accidents also increases. In 2010, India recorded 1,34,000 road accidents deaths, the highest in the world. The reckless driving is responsible for 70% of road accidents and the other causes are-
Pedestrians, bad-roads, defective vehicles, heavy drinking (drunk driving), over speeding, over taking and stray animals on roads. There are no respects for traffic rules in most Indian towns and cities.
Road accidents can be minimised if we maintain our roads properly, school children should be taught how to walk on the roads, traffic rules should be enforced strictly, defective vehicles shouldn’t be allowing on roads. The wearing of helmet should be made compulsory for two wheelers drivers. The drivers are appealed not to undertake drunk-driving.
Important point: -
·       Drunk-driving: - it is the driving under the influence of vine.
·       Carpooling / car sharing / ride sharing / lift sharing: - it is the sharing of car journeys so that more than one person can travel in a car. it reduces fuel and toll cost, carbon emissions and traffic congestion on road.
·       Driving is a privilege, not a right.
·       R.T.O.: -  Regional transport authority issues a driver’s licence to a person who having 18years of age and he/she fulfils the conditions and rules set by the R.T.O.
·         N.C.S.A.: -  National centre for statistics and analysis.
